In wrapping up this month-long series on Wednesdays, I wanted to hit on this beautiful song. There’s nothing hidden of God in this song, it’s quite blatant – and I love it.
Sisters, our lives are constantly lived amidst the chaotic whirlwind of home, family, friends, jobs, careers, meetings, appointments, and just flat out disruptions and disturbances.
“If the enemy can’t get you through destruction, he’ll get you through distraction.” –Beth Moore
It’s not easy living the lives we live as women. We wear many hats in our employ of simply being women – and through this, we often forget there is a day coming when all of this chaos that we know will just disappear; and our lives for eternity will be forever more without pain.
But until that day does come – we can actually have a slice…a mere taste of this freedom here and now.
How?
1) Hold Fast to Him
“H.O.L.D.F.A.S.T God has set His love upon me!” –Beth Moore
In Deut 10:15, “the Lord set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today.”
Sisters…He.Loves.You.Now!…Always!
He always has held fast to us, with an immovable grip on our hearts – and the way we taste just a bit of the freedom He has in store for our eternal lives now, is hold just as tightly to Him as He does us. Embracing Him as He embraces us…sets.us.free!
2) Give Him thanks for everything – even the ugly.
Thanking Him grasps (holds fast to) Him, releasing ourselves (of the bondage of this world). “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5 (ESV)
“We were made to give Him thanks; to give Him glory.” – Ann Voskamp
Embracing Him in thanksgiving, holding fast to Him thanking Him even for the pains of life that sometimes find their way in, frees us into a small slice of what we are to expect tomorrow.
Sisters, yes…pain comes. Life happens. Moments happen. But it isn’t all ugly, as ugly wants you to think it is. There is beauty in the ashes and the shatterings of our hearts being cracked wide open – only if we give Him thanks as we clutch onto Him so tightly that our nails dig into Him.
Peace…now…is possible.
If you’re in a moment today, sisters, where you’re uncertain of God’s love for you – read Deut. 10. Begin to understand that your lives are gifts – and they are to be counted as such in your hearts. He sees your hearts as gifts, and the only way to begin to live out in the slightest bit of freedom now, of what is yet to come, is embrace Him in thanksgiving for your heart…and all that attacks it, and loves on it.
“Life (in love) is not always easy, fun – but it’s worth it.” –Beth Moore
Let’s Discuss: Can you see yourself making this step of thanks, holding fast to Him, starting now? Why, or why not?
